Friday Figures - 24 Feb

When considering varying intersections of diversity in music and the arts, education must be considered as this sets the future path to access. Research into the socio-economic (dis)advantages need to be looked into and acted upon at earlier stages, before even considering adulthood, industry and working age. How this varies from the country to country further shines light on the investment of music and the arts at state school levels, or lack thereof, resulting in further barriers in opportunity for marginalised groups. In today’s Friday Figures, we look at the report from Heidi Ashton and David Ashton (University of Warwick) which dives into the class question, state school funding versus private/independent school funding of the music and the arts - and also has an interesting comparative cultural angle between UK and Europe.
